I'm sure all of us will remember the huge let down we felt after coming out of Ang Lee's Hulk. Well thankfully Marvel did not abandon the Hulk and brought him back under the direction of Louis Leterrier. They completely retooled the character and made what many have considered a success. However it is unlikely that the film will out gross the original which was even cheaper to make.
According to Reuters, the success of Iron Man has made it easy for Marvel to downplay the shortcomings of The Incredible Hulk. You can also toss in the low expectations that many have had after Ang Lee mucked up the character. "We're happy with the financial results, even if they (only) reach the first film's levels," a Marvel insider insisted. "Having a sequel is not the definition of success."
Which is usually what I think. But isn't the fun of watching these superhero films waiting for the next one to come out? I mean SpiderMan 2 was much better than the first and Batman Begins was miles better than any of the previous films. Now The Incredible Hulk has yet to bow in some overseas countries but there isn't much hope that it will translate to much more money in the bank for Marvel. So will we see the menacing green guy again? Only time will tell.
