This is some of the best news I have heard in quite some time. Dark Horse Entertainment, David Fincher and animation house Blur have now joined forces to bring everyones friendly neighborhood Goon to the silver screen. Unfortunately however it won't be live action. Instead they are doing the entire film in CG. Which in the long run might be the best thing for a film based on The Goon. It will allow them to do some of the crazy and outrageous stuff that if done in a live action feature would be near impossible.
Thankfully Eric Powell is completely on board and will in fact be writing the script. Dark Horse Entertainment have a first look deal with Universal but they want to develop the project in-house first before they set up at any major studio. As most of you know Powell created The Goon way back in 1999 when he was publishing the comic pretty much on his own. Then he finally hit the jack pot with Dark Horse and ever since Goon has been smashing octupus and smashing zombies.
What really excites me about this project is the possibility that if they do decide to go with Universal we are looking a possible Hellboy cameo. Hellboy has teamed up with The Goon before so this wouldn't be the first time and it certainly wouldn't be out of place. But that is of course a fanboys dream at this point. Let's just hope this project doesn't get caught in development hell.
