Google and its Founders to get Big Screen Treatment

We’ve all probably seen the trailer for “The Social Network,” the film that tells the story of the founding of Facebook. Even if it’s something that seemed a little far-fetched when we all first heard of the project, once I heard the names of director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin, I was in. The trailer solidified that. Well, here comes “The Google Movie,” it seems.
Deadline: NY is reporting that Groundswell Productions has optioned the rights for David Auletta’s book “Googled: The End of the World as We Know It,” which came out earlier in the year. It apparently tells the story of two college friends who made it their mission to build a company and “not be evil.” The film will then, according to the article, documents the constant threats the two will face on their journey to the top.
The shenanigans and controversy surrounding Facebook was well-documented as it became more popular. But, Google, although I’m sure it had humble beginnings and became the most recognizable business in the world, just doesn’t seem to have the conflict, backstabbing and, well, drama that “The Social Network” will have. So, I’m somewhat skeptical for this tale, but if the right talent comes along, anything is possible.
